Stress is the natural reaction of the body when threatened or put under pressure by a real or perceived fear or danger. Everyone reacts differently and in their own way to stress depending on their life experiences and their perception of the stressful situation. It is instinctive and stems back to when man had to survive by killing animals to eat and fighting for their territory.
The stress response is a reaction by the body designed to allow us to respond to the stressor. Prolonged emotional stress, as is common in modern lives, for example a stressful job or pressures of modern family life, means that this increased energy is not dissipated as it would have been originally when used for fighting for our survival.
Of course, reflexology can be a way to relieve tension, aid sleep, improve mood, promote relaxation and provide an enhanced sense of wellbeing, which in turn can support the body to cope with stress.
